Project “Your City Council Member” is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the city councils of the Luhansk oblast. The project was launched as a response to the lack of accountability to the public by elected local governmental officials.Local constituents are unaware of their local council members’ activity and are usually deprived of the opportunity to participate in any meaningful way in the local decision-making process. 

Easily accessible and objective information about local council members’ activitis is expected to increase the ability of the public to hold their elected officials accountable for their actions and decisions during the term for which they have been elected. This project has been implemented in collaboration with the media, non-profit organizations, and with active citizens of selected cities and the Luhansk oblast.

Project activities include the following: (1) the formation of a coalition of approximately 10 to 15 non-profit organizations which are interested in monitoring at least 4 local councils’ activities; (2) the systematic gathering and disseminating of information concerning elected officials’ activities on the project’s specialweb-site; (3) an awareness campaign to inform the public of the project’s web-site and to involve them in discussions about the monitoring results; and (4) holding two one-day trainings on advocacy campaigns and collaboration with media for the non-profit organizations and local activists.
